DUSHANBE, October 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — A meeting dedicated to the 110th birth anniversary of known Tajik Soviet statesman Shirinsho Shotemur is taking place at the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Dushanbe today.
President Emomali Rahmon, chairmen of both houses of the parliament, senior representatives of the government, representatives of the creative intelligentsia and foreign guests will attend the meeting.
Shirinsho Shotemur was born in the village of Porshnev, GBAO’s Shugnan district on December 1, 1899. He was one of the main organizers of the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and directed his efforts to this goal and gave his life for achievement of this goal. Shotemur was arrested in 1937 following fabricated charge of participation in the anti-Soviet nationalistic organization. He was executed by shooting on October 27, 1937. Shirinsho Shotemur was buried at the Donskoy cemetery in Moscow. He was fully exonerated on August 11, 1956.
Shirinsho Shotemur played an important role in gathering Tajikistan bit by bit and formation of the modern statehood of the Tajiks. Together with Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur actively pursued a series of questions about the expansion of borders of the autonomous republic. Great effort was made so that Khujand and its surrounding regions became part of present-day Tajikistan.
Along with Sadriddin Ayni, Bobojon Ghafurov and Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur was awarded as Hero of Tajikistan.
