Tajikistan raises vehicle tax by 25 percent

DUSHANBE, November 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The 22nd session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) of the third convocation that was held today considered and seconded the law on participation of citizens in maintaining public order.  The law revives the institution of voluntary people’s patrol dedicated to provide assistance to the law enforcement authorities in maintaining public order.

Members of the Majlisi also considered and seconded amendments to the country’s laws on legal status of foreign citizens in Tajikistan,  police, road traffic, copyright and neighboring rights, the government of Tajikistan, public holidays, local authorities, as well as amendments to the tax, water and civil codes.

Thus, amendments made to the Constitutional Law “On the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan” require members of the government to submit information regarding their incomes and property to relevant bodies annually.

Under amendments made to the country’s tax code, vehicle tax rises 25 percent beginning on January 1, 2010.
