DUSHANBE, November 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday, November 16, 2009 the U.S. Embassy International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office in Tajikistan provided furniture for a training facility and conference room for the Ombudsman Office, according the U.S Embassy in Dushanbe.
The furniture was purchased in connection with a training program for the employees of the Ombudsman Institution on human rights protection mechanisms that started on November 17, 2009.
This program was developed by the U.S. Embassy International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Office jointly with Ms. Nigina Bahriyeva, National Consultant to the Ombudsman Institution and the NGO “Bureau of Human Rights”. The INL Office allocated $60,000 to support training programs and capacity building for the Ombudsman Institution in 2010.
The U.S. Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement program has provided more than $37.5 million of assistance to support Tajikistan’s security, rule of law, police, and counter narcotics efforts since 1992.
