49 candidates registered to compete for 30 seats in Khorog legislature

KHOROG, February 11, 2010, Asia-Plus  — 49 candidates have been officially allowed to run for election to the Khorog legislature (City Majlis), Tohirbek Shodmonbekov, head of the Khorog city electoral commission, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, 63 candidates were nominated to run but 14 who applied as candidates were not registered by the commission.

Shodmonbekov noted that the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) had nominated its candidates in all 30 constituencies.  “Besides, four PDPT members are running for the Khorog legislature as self-propelled candidates,” the commission head said.

He added that the Communist Party (CPT) had nominated five candidates and the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) had nominated only one candidate.  There are also 9 self-propelled candidates.

There are 30 seats available in the Khorog legislature.
