DUSHANBE, February 11, 2010, Asia-Plus  — An Iranian-Tajik-Afghan television channel will be launched by the Navrouz holiday, Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust stated at a news conference in Dushanbe on February 10.

The news conference was dedicated to the 31st anniversary of Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Ambassador Sherdoust noted that the launch of the joint channel had been postponed due to some reservations expressed by the Afghan side.

He noted that Iran and Tajikistan had done everything required to make the station operational.  According to him, Iran has spent 11 million somoni for purchase of equipment and broadcasting grid and programs have been prepared as well as offices for the station have already been allocated in the Tajik and Iranian capitals.

Iranian diplomat expressed confidence that the joint television station would help peoples of three Persian-speaking countries know more about each other and would play an important role in raising regional and international prestige of the Persian-speaking countries.

Ambassador Sherdoust also noted that textbooks on Arabic script for 1st through 8th grade students at Tajik schools would be printed in Iran.  “To discuss this and other issues related to educational cooperation between the two countries Iranian education minister is expected to arrive in Tajikistan in the near future,” Sherdoust said.
