KHOROG, February 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Sunday February 14, candidates for parliament running in Khorog sing-mandate # 41 met with representatives from local authorities, political parties, NGOs and the Khorog public.

Members of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) and the election observation mission (long-term observers) the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) also attended the meeting.

Inaugurating the meeting, Otamsho Maqboulshoyev, head of the electoral commission for the Khorog single-mandate constituency, noted that the meeting was organized with support from the Khorog Civil Society Center “Qalam” and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to make the Khorog public aware of pre-election platforms of political parties and programs of candidates running for election to the parliament in the Khorog constituency.

Heads of the organizations of the Agrarian (APT), Communist (CPT), Democratic (DPT), Islamic Revival (IRPT) and People’s Democratic (PDPT) parties in the region acquainted those present with main directions of their pre-election platforms.

Similar meetings were also conducted in Ishkashim ad Murgab districts, which are parts of the Khorog single-mandate constituency.  

We will recall that head of the GBAO regional library Alidod Cahroghabdolov, nominated by the Communist Party (CPT), head of the state committee for statistics Mirgand Shabozov, nominated by the People’s Democratic Party, and teacher from Khorog school # 7 Alim Sherzamonov, nominated by the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT), are competing for a seat in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) in the Khorog constituency.
