Tajik drug control chief, OSCE Office head discuss further cooperation in organizing drug prevention events

DUSHANBE, February 18, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A meeting of Lieutenant-General Rustam Nazarov, Director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA), with Ambassador Ivar Vikki, Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, took place in the OSCE Office in Dushanbe on February 17.

According to the DCA press service, the sides discussed issues related to further cooperation in organizing drug prevention events.

They, in particular, pointed out successful implementation of joint projects for carrying out drug prevention and explanatory events in border districts of Gorno Badakhshan, Sughd and Khatlon provinces and districts subordinate to the center.  These projects were implemented last year.

The OSCE Office in Tajikistan decided to continue financing the program in 2010.  According to Ambassador Vikki, the OSCE highly appraises activities of the Tajik counternarcotics agency and measures taken by the government to fight illicit drug trafficking, the DCA press service noted.

The sides also discussed organization of courses to raise professionalism of employees of press services of Tajik law enforcement and power-wielding structures as well as journalists covering issues of combating drug trafficking and preventing drug addiction.
