DUSHANBE, February 25, 2010, Asia-Plus — The branch of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) in the Bobojonghafurov district, Sughd province has repaid 78 percent of the government credit given last year for enhancement of the agrarian sector, according to Amonatbonk’s head office in Dushanbe.
In 2009, the government gave a 2.654 million somoni credit to farmers in the Bobojonghafurov district through Amonatbonk. “Repayment of 75 percent of the credit has become possible due to joint work of the bank and farming units in the district,” the source said.
According to him, targeted credit resources were provided under government’s decree of February 27, 2009 on development of the country’s agrarian sector. He added that targeted credit resources allocated for enhancement of the agrarian sector in 2008 had been repaid fully.
Amonatbonk is the only state-owned bank. It is one of the oldest in Tajikistan (established in 1925) and one of the largest based upon various criteria – including the number of branches and the number of served clients. The institution is unique in its orientation towards implementing social, pension and other state programs. Amonatbonk has 5 regional centers, 69 branches and nearly 500 agencies. This gives the institution a presence in the most remote mountainous parts of the country.
