DUSHANBE, February 27, 2010, Asia-Plus — Organization and holding of the February 28 parliamentary elections as well as participation of the population in this important event were discussed today here at a meeting of Saydullo Khairulloyev, chairman of the outgoing Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) with delegation of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, led by election observation mission coordinator Vladimir Pakhtin., according to the Majlisi Namoyandagon press service.
Pointing out that favorable legal and political conditions have been created for holding of transparent and democratic elections, Khairulloyev, in particular, noted that this year’s parliamentary elections differ cardinally from those held in 2005. First of all, the president is guarantor of holding of transparent and democratic elections, he noted. Besides, all political parties had equal access to media for presenting their platforms during the election campaign.
For his part, Pakhtin expressed satisfaction with the process of preparations for the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan and giving equal opportunities to all candidates.
