DUSHANBE, July 15, 2010, Asia-Plus — No one force is able today to destabilize the political situation in Tajikistan, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, Suhrob Sharipov, stated at a news conference in Dushanbe today.
He is sure that Tajikistan has enough forces and opportunities to prevent such actions.
“The political situation in the country is now quite stable and there is no ground for coups and revolutions,” said the Tajik think head. “Some experts have spoken about traces of instability in Tajikistan lately. They are speaking about traces of stability, while they do have enough information. They are making conclusions without serious monitoring of process taking place in our country. Anyway, we study and check such reports in order to find out on what they are based.”
“On the other hand, we must be aware that Tajikistan is surrounded by countries, in which military conflicts are going on,” said Sharipov, “There are certain terrorist bases, training mercenaries for various actions, in these countries. Tajikistan is taking measures to address such threats.”
He also noted that there were forces that wanted to turn the entire Central Asia region into a “hot spot.” However, Sharipov refrained from naming these forces.
“Tajikistan has developed the national security strategy,” said the expert, “We track processes that take place in Tajikistan and neighboring countries, adequately responding to them if they pose threat to stability in the country.”
Sharipov expressed confidence that the Tajik people will never repeat mistakes made in the early 1990s.
