DUSHANBE, July 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — Mr. Saleem H. Mandviwala, Minister of State/Chairman, Board of Investment (BOI), of Pakistan, heading a group of Pakistani businessmen arrived in Tajikistan yesterday for a three-day working visit.
Davlat Nazriyev, the head of the Tajik MFA information department, told Asia-Plus today that during his stay in Tajikistan, Mr. Saleem H. Mandviwala is scheduled to hold talks with senior representatives from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials to discuss cooperation issues.
Experts noted that it could not be ruled out that the sides would discuss the revival of a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Pakistan on the construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP).
We will recall that the Government of Pakistan in 1992 expressed readiness to invest 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of the Roghun HPP but the civil war in Tajikistan impeded the implementation of this agreement.
