DUSHANBE, August 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — To-date, Tajik farmers have produced 561,000 tons of grains from 260,000 hectares, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
Average grain yields are 2.23 tons per hectare, which is 0.3 ton fewer than last year, the source at a MoA said.
This year, farmers have planted grains on more than 333,000 hectares of farmland and 242,200 hectares have been allotted to the wheat cultivation.
Farmers have gathered harvests from 212,600 hectares of the wheat fields (87.8 percent) to this day. “To-date, they have produced more than 482,000 tons of wheat, which is 38,000 tons fewer than in the same period last year,” the source said, noting that average wheat yields were 2.34 ton/ha.
Farmers in the northern Sughd province have planted grains on 111,400 hectares this year and they have yielded more than 115,000 tons of grains to this day. Average grain yields in Sughd are 1.7 tons/ha.
Khatlon farmers have allotted 151,600 hectares to the grain cultivation and they have yielded more than 358,000 tons of grains from 142,000 hectares so far. Average grain yields in Khatlon are 2.56 tons/ha.
Districts subordinate to the center have planted grains on 63,600 hectares and they have yielded more than 85,600 tons of grains from 49,000 hectares to this day. Average grain yields in districts subordinate to the center are 2.0 tons/ha.
In Gorno Badakhshan, farmers have planted grains on 6,340 hectares and they have yielded some 2,000 tons of grains from 1,800 hectares so far. Average grain yields in Gorno Badakhshan are 1.67 tons/ha.
It is to be noted that only 324 of 950 grain harvester combines have been involved in the grain-harvesting campaign this year so far.
We will recall that 463,000 hectares were allotted to the grain cultivation last year and Tajik farmers yielded some 1.3 million tons of grain; average grain yields last year were 2.52 tons/ha.
