KHUJAND, August 20, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Sughd counternarcotics directorate burned 59.423 kilograms of narcotics on August 20.

A totaled included 49.276 kilograms of heroin, 9.671 kilograms of raw opium and 476 grams of cannabis, the source at the Sughd counternarcotics directorate said.

According to him, the drugs were seized in the course of 2009-2010 and were material evidences in nine drug-related criminal crimes.  Sentences in these criminal cases already came into force, he added.

The drugs were destroyed in the presence of representatives from the law enforcement and power-wielding structures as well as media.
