KHUJAND, September 17, 2010, Asia-Plus — 780 children were adopted in Sughd province last year, Asia-plus has learned at the secretariat of the Sughd commission for child’s rights.
“The children were adopted primarily by their relatives,” said the source, “Children from orphanages were adopted as well.”
Since 2008, the number of adopted children remains rather stable. “The statistical data are prepared by the end of year, and therefore, there are no data for this year,” the source noted. “However, it is known that 40 adoption applications are currently under consideration.”
At present there are 980 orphaned children in Sughd. 1,344 children are under guardianship of local orphanages and boarding schools.
