DUSHANBE, Asia-Plus September 17, 2010, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon is receiving visiting Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation, Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, today afternoon.
According to presidential press service, state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar will be a major topic of the talks. The sides are also expected to discuss the implementation of agreements between the two countries that were reached during President Rahmon’s official visit to Qatar in May 2007 and an official visit of the Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to Tajikistan in August 2007.
They are also supposed to discuss the process of implementation of Qatar-sponsored projects in Tajikistan.
We will recall that Qatar is financing the construction of Central Asia’s largest mosque in Dushanbe and the implementation of a luxury real estate project in the Tajik capital.
A groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the mosque took place on October 5, 2009. The mosque that will accommodate 1,500 people will be constructed in five years due to donations from Tajik nationals and the Emir of Qatar. The Adnan Safari construction company (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) is building the mosque. Besides, the building of Tajik Islamic University will be constructed near the mosque.
The luxury real estate project in Tajikistan was launched by Qatari state-owned investment firm Qatari Diar in August 2009 at a ceremony in Dushanbe with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Qatari Diar chief executive Ghanim bin Saad al-Kawari. Kawari said Qatari Diar would look into possible further investments in the Tajik agriculture and education sectors. The Dushanbe Diar project will include residential towers, a five-star hotel, shopping malls, conference centers and gardens when finished in 2012. The project is Qatari Diar”s first in Central Asia.
