Two detained in Kulob for illegal deprivation of freedom

Date:

KULOB, September 18, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Kulob law enforcement authorities have instituted criminal proceedings against two residents of the city of Kulob – Nabijon Nazarov and Bobojon Nazarov.

The Kulob police department chief Abdulvahhob Iskandarov told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon that criminal proceedings were instituted against the Nazarov brothers under the provisions of Article 131 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – illegal deprivation of freedom.

According to him, the Nazarov brothers, the 30-year-old Bobojon and the 26-year-old Nabijon, took Hasan Qurbonov from Kulob and Rahmatullo Raupov from Vose district hostage to recover debts.  “Qurbonov and Raupov took US$30,000 from the brothers and failed to repay their debt and interest in time,” said Iskandarov, “The Nazarov brothers held them hostage for four days.”

Investigation is under way.  The Kulob police chief added that Bobojon Nazarov had previously been convicted of murder.
