DUSHANBE, September 23, 2010, Asia-Plus — Former opposition commanders Mirzokhouja Ahmadov and Olim Odilov, who are blamed for a September 19 attack on a military convoy in Rasht, are alive and they are on the lam, Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), told Asia-Plus Thursday afternoon.
“In any event, their bodies were not found at the scene of the skirmish between the government forces and their supporters that took place in Rasht on September 22,” the spokesman said.
Asadulloyev also denied reports by some media that three other government troops died on September 22 of wounds sustained in the September 19 attack. The media reported that referring to a MoI. “I did not give such data,” Asadulloyev noted.
According to official figures, 23 government troops were killed and 15 others were wounded on September 19 as the defense ministry’s convoy came under grenade attack in Kamarob Gorge in Rasht district. The death toll was raised to 25 on September 21.
