Dushanbe municipal authorities again permit drivers of Chinese minivans to carry passengers

DUSHANBE, October 28, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Dushanbe municipal authorities have permitted drivers of eight-seat Chinese Hafei minivans to carry passengers in Dushanbe again.

An enlarged meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office, presided over by Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, to discuss preparation of the city for autumn-winter 2010-2011 took place on October 27.

A tax business was also on the meeting’s agenda.  Taking into account analysis conducted by relevant municipal services and for the purpose of organizing sound competition in the municipal transport sector, the mayor permitted drivers of eight-seat Chinese Hafei minivans to carry passengers in the capital city again, Shabvkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.

These minivans are known in Tajikistan as Tangem (named after a female Korean soap opera star popular on local television).

The Dushanbe chef prosecutor reported on the findings of inspection of appropriate municipal structures for compliance with implementation of mayor’s decision on measures to prepare the city for the autumn-winter period.  A number of inconsiderable shortcomings were revealed, the prosecutor said.

The mayor gave heads of those municipal structures 20 days to remove existing shortcomings.  They were warned that organizational measures would be taken against them if they fail to remove the shortcomings.

It was noted that despite measures taken by the municipal authorities and Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier), the Dushanbe power and heat station is able to provide only 20 percent of the city with heating.  Ubaidulloyev noted that the municipal authorities were ready to provide 4.5 million somoni to Barqi Tojik for making prepayment for natural gas.

The mayor introduced a number of staff changes at the meeting.  Sayvali Safarov was appointed deputy mayor, Sayrambi Langariyeva was made deputy chairperson of Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district, Gulnora Boboyeva was appointed chairperson of the Dushanbe education directorate, Gulchehra Sharifva was appointed director of the Poytakht Hotel, and Nozira Soqiyeva was appointed to head the Poytakht Center.
