KULOB, November 10, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Kulob-based public association, Maryam, has revealed 20 human trafficking cases in three months, the Maryam chairperson Mahbouba Sharipova said.
According to her, ten traffic victims have already been identified and sent to Dushanbe, where they are receiving medical and psychological assistance at the rehabilitation center. “The work on the remaining human trafficking cases is going on,” Sharipova said, noting that Maryam is implementing the project, Nest Bod Kharidu Furushi Inson (Down with Trafficking in Persons), in the region.
The project that has worked here since 2008 covers the city of Kulob and Muminobod, Kulob, Shouroobod and Vose districts. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the project is implemented under support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Mission to Tajikistan, Sharipova said.
