DUSHANBE, January 25, 2011, Asia-Plus  — According to the latest data from Russia’s appropriate services, 35 persons were killed and some 100 others were injured, many of them critically, at a bomb attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

The explosion happened in the international arrivals hall of the airport, which is the busiest airport serving Russia”s capital, at about 16:31 local time.

Investigators say the explosion, which happened in the arrivals hall, was caused by a suicide bomber.  President Dmitry Medvedev vowed that those behind the attack would be tracked down and punished.  He ordered increased security across Russia”s capital, its airports and other transport hubs.  Medvedev also called an emergency meeting with officials and also postponed his planned departure for this week”s World Economic Forum at Davos.

Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda reports that there is one Tajik national – Sobir Jabborov — among the dead.

The Russian emergencies ministry reports there are several Tajik nationals among those injured in the bombing, namely Bakhtiyor Ghafforov, Saidbek Iskandarov, Saydullo Kenjayev, Nourullo Hasanov, Mansour Khudoyorov, Umed Ollahberdi, Maruf Majidov and Sohib Sohibov.

In the meantime, the Tajik MFA does not confirm the report that Tajik national is among the dead.  Davlat Nazriyev, a spokesman for MFA, says that according to information received from the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, 12 Tajik nationals were injured in the blast at the Domodedovo airport, two of them critically.

“We cannot confirm the fact that Tajik national was killed in the bombing in Domodedovo, until we receive official information,” the spokesman said.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon extended condolences to relatives and friends of those killed in the bombing attack at the Domodedovo airport.  Rahmon ordered heads of the ministries of interior and foreign affairs to take measures to provide assistance to Tajik nationals with getting competent assistance, the Tajik MFA information department said.
