Dushanbe municipal government takes measures to curb food price hike

DUSHANBE, February 15, 2011, Asia-Plus – A working meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office that took place at the end of last week considered issues related to providing consumer market with basic food products and measures to curb the food price hike in the city.

Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev urged to stop food price hike, Shavkat Saidov a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.

To make activities of Dushanbe’s markets more efficient and raise responsibility of market directors, the mayor ordered to carry out restructuring of the state unitary enterprise, Savdo and Bozorhoi Dushanbe (Trade and markets of Dushanbe), in the near future and establish state unitary enterprises Shohmansour (Shohmansour bazaar), Barakat (Barakat bazaar) and Dehqon (Dehqon bazaar).  The state-unitary enterprise, Faroghat, will be transferred to jurisdiction of the Dehqon bazaar and the Louchob bazaar will be transferred to jurisdiction of the Shohmansour bazaar.

The mayor also ordered to allocate interest-free loans from the city budget to facilities within jurisdiction of Savdo and Bozorhoi Dushanbe for one year for purchasing basic food products for the city’s bazaars.

Besides, with the aim of providing social support to vulnerable sections of the population, Ubaidulloyev also ordered to prepare draft decree on providing extraordinary grants and take under strict control facilities providing with food products boarding schools, orphanages and elderly centers, the spokesman said.
