Afghan national detained with heroin in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, May 31, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Afghan national Mohammadqasim Mohammadaref, 46, was detained with more than 7 kilograms of heroin in Dushanbe on May 30, the Interior Ministry press office reports.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug trafficker and an investigation is under way.

“Since the beginning of this year, Tajik police officers have detained some 10 Afghan citizens in Tajikistan for drug trafficking,” the Interior Ministry spokesman Mahmadullo Asadulloyev said, noting that more than 1,145 kilograms of narcotics have been seized by police officers over the report period.
