Czech Republic interested in expansion of economic cooperation with Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, June 7, 2011, Asia-Plus — Bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Czech Republic were discussed here yesterday at a meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmoudjon Sobirov, with a delegation of the Senate of Parliament of the Czech Republic, according the Tajik MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, the sides reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The head of the Czech delegation, Mr. Premysl Sobotka, who is Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, in particular, noted that his country was interested in expansion of trade and economic cooperation with Central Asia’s nations, including Tajikistan.

Tajik deputy foreign minister, for his part, noted that there were many opportunities for expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Czech Republic.  Sobirov outlined sectors like energy, transportation, minerals, agriculture and textile industry as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

The Czech side expressed interest in investing in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy and promoting Tajik goods in European market, the source said.

The Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic is the upper chamber of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague.
