DUSHANBE, June 22, 2011, Asia-Plus — Fifty-five judges have been replaced in Tajikistan recently. On Wednesday June 22, the newly-appointed judges took a judicial oath in front of the president.
Abdukhalil Rajabov, head of the Shuroi Adliya (Council of Justice), says that last year, 133 persons lodged applications for the post of judge, however, only fifty-five of them, who took a year-long training course at the Council of Justice, have managed to successfully take tests.
“Persons who reached 24 years of age and have higher legal education and a minimum two-year work experience are eligible to contend for the post of judge,” Rajabov noted.
According to the Council of Justice, the country’s judicial corps now numbers some 350 judges.
At the beginning of this year, the president endorsed the judicial reform program designed for 2011-2013. The program aims to promote strengthening the judicial power, raising role of courts in protection of human right and freedoms, legitimate interests of the state, institutions, enterprises and other organizations, as well as improving the judicial system of the country.
