DUSHANBE, October 27, 2011, Asia-Plus — A grain-harvesting campaign is going on in Tajikistan and Tajik grain growers have gathered some 515,000 tons of grains from 255,000 hectares by October 26, which is 96 percent of this year’s target, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
This year, more than 300,000 hectares have been allocated to grain cultivation, including 210,000 hectares sown with wheat. To-date, grain growers have gathered wheat from 195,000 hectares, which is 93 percent of the target, the source at a MoA said.
According to him, this year’s average grain yields have stood at 20.8 tons/ha.
Sughd grain growers have allocated 100,000 ha to grain cultivation this year and they have gathered 72,000 tons from 62,000 hectares to this day.
Grain growers in the southern Khatlon province have allocated more than 136,000 ha to gain cultivation this year and they have gathered some 330,000 tons from 135,000 hectares by October 26.
Districts subordinate to the center have yielded more than 103,000 tons of grains from 51,000 hectares by October 26. In all, 58,000 hectares of lands in districts subordinate to the center have been allocated to grain cultivation this year.
In Gorno Badakhshan, 6,374 hectares of lands have been allocated to grain cultivation this year and local framers have yielded more than 8,000 tons of grains from some 6,000 hectares to this day.
