DUSHANBE, January 9, 2012, Asia-Plus — Activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran took place in Dushanbe today.
Speaking at a briefing in Dushanbe, Davlat Nazriyev a spokesman for the Tajik Foreign Ministry, said on January 9 that Iran was the first foreign country to open its diplomatic mission in Dushanbe. “Iran is one of important partners of Tajikistan today,” he said, noting that more than 100 agreements have been signed between the two countries to this date.
“Economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran has expanding in recent years and construction of the Istiqlol Tunnel and the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) is a striking example of that,” the spokesman said.
Nazriyev added that more than 150 Iranian companies now successfully operate in Tajikistan.
The Republic of Tajikistan established diplomatic relations the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 9, 1992.
