Tajikistan’s external trade turnover estimated at more than $4.4 bln in 2011

DUSHANBE, January 16, 2012, Asia-Plus  — In 2011, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, amounted to 4.4433 billion U.S. dollars, which was 115.4 percent of the 2011 level or 591.7 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to more than 1.9 billion US dollars.

Exports of goods in 2011 amounted to 1.2569 billion US dollars, which is 5.2 percent, or 62.2 million U.S. dollars, more than in 2010.

Imports of goods into the country last year amounted to 3.1864 billion U.S. dollars, which is 19.9 percent, or 529.5 million dollars, more than in 2010.

In 2011, Tajikistan had trade relations with 102 countries of the world, including 10 CIS nations.

Compared to 2010, Tajikistan’s cotton fiber exports decreased by 1.1 percent and export of non-precious metals decreased by 9.4 percent.

Electricity imports reportedly decreased by 89.9 percent last year.  Alumina imports decreased by 17 percent and unprocessed skin and wool imports decreased by 13 percent.

In 2011, Tajikistan’s major export partners were: Turkey – 43.3 percent (of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports); China – 20.2 percent; Afghanistan – 7.5 percent; ad Russia – 6.0 percent.  Tajikistan’s major import partners in 2011 were: Russia – 30.2 percent; Kazakhstan – 13.3 percent; China – 12.8 percent; and Iran – 5.1 percent.
