On May 23 Tajik Energy and Industry Minister Gul Sherali laid the foundation stone for and gave the official launch to the construction of a small 300-kilowatt hydropower plant in Vanj region of GBAO.

As reported by Tajik Energy and Industry Ministry, technical and economic (feasibility) study for the construction of the HPP was designed by Tajik energy and industry experts in collaboration with South Korean Dohwa Engineering and Esocean.

The power plant will be able to produce electricity for 300 households, two schools, one hospital and kindergarten in villages of Motravn, Shovut, Dashti Shovut and Budun. The facility is expected to become operational till the end of this year.

As previously reported by the Pamir Energy, the power plant will be constructed using state-of-the-art technologies. “This will be an inflow-type hydroelectric power plant which will have no derivation channel or tunnel which are typical for other small hydroelectric power plants,” the company has said. “The facility and equipment will be located straight above water.”

The power plant will be constructed thanks to funds allocated by the Government of South Korea. “Related construction equipment will be delivered from South Korea,” Pamir Energy has said. “Experts from our company will provide direct assistance to South Korean experts.”
