DUSHANBE, June 18, 2012, Asia-Plus — Over the first five months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 2.036 billion U.S. dollars, which was 109.0 percent of the January-May 2011 level or 168.4 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to more than 921.5 million U.S. dollars.
Exports of goods over the first five months of this year have amounted to 557.3 million U.S. dollars, which is 6.8 percent or 40.7 million U.S. dollars fewer than in January-May of 2011.
Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 1.4788 billion U.S. dollars, which is 16.5 percent or 209.6 million dollars more than in January-May of 2011.
In January-May of 2012, Tajikistan had trade relations with 87 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.
The CIS nations accounted for 42.6 percent (867.7 million U.S. dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover for the report period and other countries accounted for 57.4 percent (1.1684 billion U.S. dollars).
Compared to January-May of 2011 cotton fiber exports over the first five months of this year have decreased by 2.3 percent and export of non-precious metals have decreased over the report period by 27.2 percent.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 62 million cubic meters of natural gas for a total amount of 16.8 million U.S. dollars.
In January-May 2012, Tajikistan’s major export partners were: Turkey – 39.1 percent (of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports); China – 19.1 percent; Afghanistan – 9.0 percent; Russia – 6.9 percent; Switzerland – 5.7 percent; Kazakhstan – 5.1 percent; Iran- 4.9 percent.
Tajikistan’s major import partners in January-May of 2012 were: Russia – 25.0 percent; Kazakhstan – 15.9 percent; China – 9.8 percent; the Virgin Irelands – 5.3 percent; the United States – 4.9 percent; Turkmenistan – 4.7 percent; Iran – 4.4 percent.
