DUSHANBE, July 12, 2012, Asia-Plus — Negotiations between Tajik and Azeri government delegations that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan on July 12 resulted in signing of ten bilateral cooperation documents, the Tajik president’s official website reports.
The sides reportedly signed government-to-government agreements on protection for copyrights, mutual recognition of educational documents and documents on scientific degrees and titles, and cooperation in the fields of youth policy and tourism.
Besides, a memorandum of cooperation between the National Olympic Committees of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, an agreement on cooperation between Tajik National University and Baku State University,, a program of cooperation between the Governments of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan for the period of 2013-2015, a protocol on cooperation and consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, an agreement on cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture of the two countries, and a memorandum of understanding on development of cooperation between the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) and Azerbaijan’s Company Azeralyuminiy were signed.
Emomali Rahmon and Ilham Aliyev signed a joint statement of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the President of the republic of Azerbaijan.
After the ceremony of signing of the documents, the presidents of Tajikistan and Azerbaijan exchanged state decorations. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon bestowed Order of Ismoili Somoni Grade 1 on his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev awarded Emomali Rahmon supreme order of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev Order.
According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, trade between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan over the first five months of this year has amounted to some 18 million U.S. dollars. Imports have reportedly accounted for 100 percent of trade between the two countries. Tajikistan has imported mainly oil products from Azerbaijan.
