Date:

DUSHANBE October 4, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday October 3, President Emomali Rahmon sent a congratulatory message to German President Joachim Gauck on the occasion of the day of German Unity, Tajik president’s official website reports.

In his message, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted: “During the recent years the relations and cooperation between our two countries have gained a consistent and broad character, which is certainly for the benefit of our peoples and states.”

“Availing this opportunity, I express hope that our bilateral friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres will be more deeply developing for the good of peoples of both states.  The Tajik side will take every necessary effort to intensify these relationships, which serve currently as an important factor of ensuring peace, stability and constructive cooperation in the region.”

The Day of German Unity is the national day of Germany, celebrated on 3 October as a public holiday.  It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990, when the goal of a unity of Germany that originated in the middle of the 19th century, was fulfilled.  Therefore, the name addresses neither the re-union nor union, but the unity of Germany.  The Day of German Unity on October 3 has been a German national holiday since the reunification in 1990, when the German reunification was brought out in full force.  The October 3 is a legal holiday of the Federal Republic of Germany.
