DUSHANBE, December 17, 2012, Asia-Plus — The daily supply of Tajik electricity to Afghanistan is less than 3 percent of the overall volume of electricity generated by Tajik power plants and it does not affect general balance of electricity supply inside the country, an official source at Barqi Tojik power holding said.
“We are currently supplying electricity to Afghanistan via the Sangtuda-Puli Khumri power transmission line just for the purpose of safeguarding the power transmission line,” the source told Asia-Plus in an interview Monday afternoon.
Tajikistan, which has surplus of electricity in spring and summer and it has supplied up to 6 million kWh of electricity per day to Afghanistan at the rate of 3.57 cents per one kWh until the end of the summer and autumn season.
According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the Resident of Tajikistan, Tajikistan has exported some 19 million U.S. dollars worth of electricity over the first eleven months of this year.
Compared to the previous years, the Tajikistan Aluminum Company (TALCO), which consumes some 40 percent of the country’s electrical power, has received electricity 4 million kWh less this year.
Tajikistan has reportedly generated more than 15.4 billion kWh of electrical power in January-November this year. The total electricity generation in November was 1.266 billion kWh, or an average of 42.2 million kWh per day.
