DUSHANBE, November 18, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik government today tendered its resignation to President Emomali Rahmon, who was reelected for a fourth consecutive term on November 6, in late November.
Under the constitution, all cabinet ministers will continue fulfilling their duties until a new government is formed.
The president, who is directly elected, is both the head of state and the head of government. The president appoints the prime minister and all the members of the government, with parliamentary approval. Tajikistan is thus a presidential republic.
Tajik government members include the prime minister, the first deputy prime minister, deputy prime ministers, ministers and heads of state committees.
