DUSHANBE, January 27, 2014, Asia-Plus – Several Tajik nationals were detained at the waiting room of Manas International Airport in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek for several hours yesterday, Tajik political scientist Parviz Mullojonov, who was among those detained at the Bishek airport, told Asia-Plus yesterday evening.

According to him, he and one more Tajik expert arrived in Bishkek to participate in a seminar on studying conflicts and discussing ways of settlement of the recent conflict that had occurred on the disputed segment of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

“We told Kyrgyz border guards of that and showed relevant documents but they said that they will not let us pass, on principle, “because experts and journalists cause all the all troubles,” Mullojonov said.

We will recall that 37 Tajik nationals, who arrived in Bishkek on January 22, were also detained at Manas International Airport for several hours for additional inspection.  Kyrgyz border guards reportedly justified additional inspection for Tajik nationals by saying that they received instruction from the Kyrgyz State Border Service to inspect Tajik national for involvement in an extremist activity.

Official sources at the Kyrgyz State Border Service, however, denied that information as baseless.

Tajik ambassador to Kyrgyzstan noted that a January 22 delay in letting passengers of the Dushanbe-Bishkek flight pass at Manas International Airport had been caused by technical problems.
