DUSHANBE, March 7, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon congratulated women of the country on the upcoming Day of the Mother Day today.

In his televised address, President Rahmon, in particular, stressed that respect and love for women and mothers should not be limited only to holidays.

“The government and our society respect will, efforts and patriotic endeavors of a Tajik Mother, because she has endured living hardships with fortitude and brought up the generation that is creator of the present and the future of this country,” the president noted in his address.

We will recall that International Women’s Day has been known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother since March 2009.  Congratulating women on March 8, 2009, President Emomali Rahmon said that International Women”s Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, but that ancient Aryan women — the ancestors of the Tajiks — had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.
