DUSHANBE, April 16, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of the parliament has registered factions of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDP) and the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan (APT).
PDP activist Bakhtovar Safarov was elected head of the PDP faction and APT activist Tolibbek Bukhoriyev was elected head of the APT faction.
According to Tajikistan’s election legislation, at least five MPs are needed to form a faction in the Majlisi Namoyandagon.
We will recall that the parliamentary elections were held in Tajikistan on March 1, 2015 and the ruling PDP won 50 seats and the APT won five seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon.
Tajikistan’s Parliament (Majlisi Oli) has two chambers: the Assembly of Representatives (Majlisi Namoyandagon) and the National Assembly (Majlisi Milli). The Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.
