DUSHANBE, May 25, 2014, Asia-Plus – Exchange rate of the national currency, the somoni (TJS), to the dollar (USD), including buying and selling rate, has remained stable over the past week, the National Bank of Tajikistan noted on May 22.
An average market buying rate (the buying rate is the rate at which money dealers buy foreign currency) of USD against TJS did not change from May 15 to May 22 and was 1:6.52.
An average market selling rate (the selling rate is the rate at which they will sell the currency) also did not change over the report period and was 1:6.54.
It is to be noted that the average buying and selling rates of USD against TJS did not change from May 8 to May 22.
Only in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the market buying exchange rate between USD and TJS rose from 1:6.40 on May 8 to 1:6.45 on May 15. At the same time, the average selling rate remained the same – 1: 6.47.
Meanwhile, market buying and selling rates of USD against TJS today morning fell to 1:6.40 and 1:6.42 respectively.
As far as an official exchange rate between USD and TJS set by the National Bank of Tajikistan is concerned, it fell from 1:6.2894 on May 8 to 1:6.2692 on May 24.
We will recall that Tajik central bank suspended operations of currency-exchange points belonging to physical entities in the country on April 17. The blanket ban on private exchange offices means more than half of the country’s exchange offices – 818 out of a total 1,581 – are being shuttered, leaving 763 operating.
