DUSHANBE, June 22, 2015, Asia-Plus – On Monday June 22, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Guo Gengmao, the Communist Party Chief and Governor of Henan Province of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Tajikistan and Henan Province of China in the field of agriculture.
Tajik leader reportedly stressed that time has come to implement agreements on construction of industrial enterprises in Tajikistan.
The Rahmon and Guo also discussed issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, mining, and construction.
Special focus was given to implementing agreements reached between ministries and agencies of Tajikistan and Henan province under which the Chinese side should invest in construction of an enterprise for production of agricultural equipment, a fertilizer factory, a flourmill, and an oil mill in Tajikistan, the president’s website said.
Henan is a province of the People”s Republic of China, located in the central part of the country. Henan is the 5th largest provincial economy of China and the largest among inland provinces. However, per capita GDP is low compared to other eastern and central provinces. The economy continues to depend on its dwindling aluminum and coal reserves, as well as agriculture, heavy industry, tourism, and retail. High-tech industry and service sector is underdeveloped and is concentrated around Zhengzhou and Luoyang.
Henan has seen rapid development in its economy over the past two decades, and its economy has expanded at an even faster rate than the national average of 10%. This rapid growth has transformed Henan from one of the poorest provinces to one that matches other central provinces, though still relatively impoverished on a national scale.
