DUSHANBE, September 21, 215, Asia-Plus — At President Rahmon’s request, the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Shukurjon Zuhurov today morning departed for Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) on a working visit, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, Zuhurov will attend a ceremony of commissioning new residential buildings for residents of the Shugnan district who were affected by mudflows and floods in July this year.
During his, visit, the parliament speaker is also scheduled to hold meeting with residents of Shugnan. Zuhurov will return to Dushanbe today evening, the spokesman said.
The abnormally hot climatic temperature across Tajikistan during this summer resulted in a sequence of natural disasters. Gorno Badakhshan was among the worst hit regions. In the second half of July the rapid melting of glaciers coupled with precipitation in the highlands of GBAO triggered mudflows and floods in the Shugnan district that destroyed more than dozens of residential buildings and crippled vital public and commercial infrastructure.
