DUSHANBE, December 16, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda has held a number of bilateral meetings in Zhengzhou, the capital city of central China”s Henan Province on the sidelines of the 14th meeting of the Council of Heads of Governments (Prime Ministers) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States that took place there on December 14-15.
His meeting with Premier of the State Council of China Li Keqiang reportedly focused on discussion of agreements that had been reached between Dushanbe and Beijing.
They vowed to boost trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China, an official source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.
While in Zhengzhou, Rasoulzoda also held talks with Chief Executive Officer of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah.
They reportedly discussed the progress of implementation of regional energy and transportation development projects.
Rasoulzoda and Dr. Abdullah underlined the necessity of expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the field of security, the source said.
Afghanistan has the status of the observer state in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has six full members — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan are six observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Sri Lanka and Turkey.
The Organization’s six full members account for 60% of the land mass of Eurasia and its population is a quarter of the world”s population. With observer states included, its affiliates account for about half of the world”s population.
