Tajik PM receives outgoing WB regional director for Central Asia

DUSHANBE, January 12, 2016, Asia-Plus – Outgoing World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, Mr. Saroj Kumar Jha, today conferred here with Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda at the end of his tenure as the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

In the course of the talks, Rasoulzoda reportedly expressed gratitude to Mr. Jha for a fruitful cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan.

The two also exchanged views on issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and World Bank, the source said.

The World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  Mr. Jha joined the World Bank”s Central Asia Regional Office in Almaty in February 2012.  Prior to the position of the regional Director for Central Asia, Jha worked as the World Bank’s Global Manager for Disaster Risk Management Practice and served as head of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), which he established in 2006 working with donors, governments, the United Nations and civil society organizations.  It is now the world”s largest global fund for disaster prevention and post-disaster recovery operations.  In addition, he has led international response efforts to many global catastrophic disasters.
