Demand for Tajik lemons reportedly increases in Russia

Date:

QURGHON TEPPA, January 13, 2016, Asia-Plus — The crisis between Russia and Turkey has reportedly led to increase in the demand for Tajik lemons in Russia and caused jump in prices for lemons in Tajikistan itself.

“In December alone, we exported more than 80 tons of lemons, primarily to Russia,” Abdulmumin Ulfatov, the head of the Khatlon agriculture department, told reporters in Qurghon Teppa on January 12.

“Meanwhile, the price for one kilogram of lemons has increased in Tajikistan from 4.00-5.00 somoni in November to 8.00-9.00 somoni,” Ulfatov noted.

According to representatives of Russia’s regions have arrived in Tajikistan to conclude contracts on supply of farm produce, including fruits and vegetables, to Russia.

“We should use this opportunity and increase production of agricultural goods,” Ulfatov added.
