Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev is dissatisfied with improper implementation of the law on traditions and rituals in the city.
Capital mayor has sacked the head of the Dushanbe department for family and women’s affairs and reprimanded deputy mayor, the head of the city administration’s office and the head of the Dushanbe department for religious affairs for failing to ensure proper implementation of the law on traditions and rituals in the city.
On September 26, Ubaidulloyev reportedly held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the mentioned law in the city.
The mayor also sharply criticized local commissions supervising the implementation of the law on traditions and rituals in Dushanbe.
The mayor demanded at the meeting that the situation should be put right in the shortest time.
Ms. Manzoura Salomova was relieved of the post of chairperson of the Dushanbe department for family and women’s affairs and the following officials were reprimanded: deputy Dushanbe mayor, Ms. Jamila Langariyeva; the head of the Dushanbe administration’s office, Firouz Ulmasov; and the head of the Dushanbe department for religious affairs, Narzullo Mahmadyusuf.
They were reportedly warned that more strict measures would be taken against them if they fail to implement their duties in future.
Ubaidulloyev called on the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office to strengthen control over the implementation of the law on traditions and rituals.
The law on traditions and rituals regulating private celebrations, including religious celebrations, was adopted in 2007. The law is reportedly aims to protect people from spending excessive amounts of money. National minorities specifically are exempted from restrictions in celebrating their national events, however.
