Tajik, Austrian presidents exchange messages of congratulations

Tajik and Austrian presidents have exchanged messages of congratulations on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Austria, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

In his message to Alexander Van der Bellen, Emomali Rahmon, in particular, noted that bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Austria, which is based on principles of mutual understanding and mutual trust and respect, is expanding, and Tajikistan hopes for fruitful continuation of cooperation with Austria in the future as well.   

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen noted in his message of congratulations that relations between Austria and Tajikistan are steadily developing despite their geographical remoteness.  

The President of Austria is directly elected by universal adult suffrage once in every six years. The President's offices are located in the Leopoldine Wing of the Hofburg Imperial Palace, in Vienna.

Alexander Van der Bellen (born January 18, 1944), an Austrian politician and economist, is the 12th President of Austria since January 26, 2017.

A member of the noble Russian Van der Bellen family, he was born in Austria to aristocratic Russian and Estonian parents who were refugees from Stalinism, and became a naturalized Austrian citizen together with his parents in 1958.  He was a professor of economics at the University of Vienna before he entered national politics.
