Safe drinking water comes to houses of residents of Dushanbe

Date:

The “Samotyochnaya” water purifying station of Dushanbe Vodokanal (DVK or Dushanbe’s municipal waterworks) was reintroduced into operation yesterday after reconstruction.

The ceremony was attended by Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali.

The “Samotyochnaya” water purifying station is capable to provide with safe drinking water 300,000 people, according to the official website of the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

Modernization of the water purifying station has been carried out by Iran’s Shimbar Company Pjsc.  The water purifying station modernization has reportedly cost 6.9 million U.S. dollars, including a grant awarded by the World Bank and 1.32 million U.S. dollars paid in by the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

One of the main facilities at the “Samotyochnaya” water purifying station is the sodium hypochlorite producing enterprise.

The Dushanbe centralized water supply system was launched in 1932 and the initial capacity of the purification plant had been 16000 m3 per day.  The “Samotyochnaya” water purifying station was introduced into operation in 1957.

Shimbar is one of the leading general contractors in the Middle East and Central Asia mainly in water, wastewater and oil and gas services.  Over 30 years of activity, Shimbar has designed, built and operated various infrastructure facilities providing water and energy services to more than 30 cities.
