This year, the main event to commemorate the 26th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence will take place in Dushanbe.
The theatrical show dedicated to the national holiday will take place at Dushanbe’s Central Stadium in the evening of September 9, according to the Ministry of Culture.
Cultural activities to celebrate the country’s independence will be held in all districts of Dushanbe, the source said.
Dozens of social, cultural and educational facilities are expected to be commissioned in the Tajik capital on the occasion of Independence Day.
Cultural activities, including concerts and outdoor fetes, will take place in all regions of the country.
The Republic of Tajikistan celebrates its Independence Day on September 9. This public holiday commemorates the independence of Tajikistan from the Soviet Union in 1991.
In 1924, Tajikistan was incorporated into Uzbekistan as the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. It became a separate constituent Soviet republic (the Tajik SSR) five years later. When the imminent collapse of the Soviet Union became evident, Tajikistan proclaimed its independence. The official proclamation was made on September 9, 1991.
