Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in New York yesterday on the sidelines of the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon noted that Tajikistan appreciates Canada’s support for strengthening of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and combating drug trafficking. Tajikistan also highly appraises Canada’s support for the OSCE Border Management Staff College in Dushanbe, Tajik leader noted.
The sides discussed issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Canada in the fields of trade, energy, agriculture and security, the Tajik president’s official website said.
Emomali Rahmon reportedly invited Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to pay visit to Tajikistan at any convenient time for him.
Meanwhile, the Canadian prime minister’s website notes that the two leaders discussed the Canada-Tajikistan bilateral relationship and a number of issues of mutual concern, including regional security, water management and climate change.
