– Tajik President yesterday met in New York with a group of US entrepreneurs on the sidelines of the UN high-level events.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is interested in good and many-sided cooperation with the United States and called the meeting an important leverage for expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. 

Rahmon reportedly outlined sectors like industry, agriculture, transportation, energy, construction, communications and tourism, as areas that could drive the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States.  He invited US investments in Tajikistan’s economy.

Rahmon noted that the Tajik government is taking all necessary measures to improve investment and entrepreneurial climate in the country and Tajikistan’s economic legislation had been brought into compliance with international norms that ensures protection of foreign investments. 

On the same day, Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with Mr. Ronald Pollett, President and CEO, General Electric (GE) in Russia and CIS.  

The two reportedly discussed issues related to cooperation in the field of energy, including construction of power transmission lines.  

On Thursday, Tajik leader also participated in the 4th meeting of the High-Level Panel on Water (HLPW), which discussed collaborative way of developing and managing water resources, and improving water and sanitation related services. The core focus of the Panel is the commitment to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, as well as to contribute to the achievement of the other SDGs that rely on the development and management of water resources.
