Industrial zone to be established in the northern city of Istiqlol

A 70-hectare industrial zone is expected to be established in the northern city of Istiqlol (formerly Taboshar) under financial support of Chinese investors, according to the Tajik president’s official website. 

The estimated budget for this project is 2.2 billion somoni.  

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony for the metallurgical enterprise in Istiqlol, President Emomali Rahmon noted yesterday that two metallurgical enterprises with annual capacity of 50,000 tons of lead and zinc each and workshops to manufacture spare parts for the mining industry as well produce sulphuric acid and accumulators will be constructed in the Istiqlol industrial zone. 

“Nuqraform enterprise was built in Istiqlol in 2015 under financial support of domestic and foreign investors.  This enterprise with capacity of 40,000 tons processes waste materials from the Kanchol silver mine,” the president said.  

According to him, a chemical zinc-processing plant with annual capacity of 10,000 tons will be built in the Istiqlol industrial zone in the near future.   

Istiqlol is a city in northern Tajikistan, located in the northern part of the Bobojon-Ghafourov district in the Sughd province.  Istiqlol is a city of provincial subordination, administratively subordinated to the provincial capital of Khujand.  The population of Istiqlol is now estimated at 7,000.
