During 2017 an overall space of more than 1.1 million sq.m. in residential buildings was made available in the country, which is 8.1 percent more than in 2016, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Some 465,000 sq.m. in residential buildings were made available in the Sughd province, 268,000 sq. meters in the Khatlon province, 195,000 sq. m. in Dushanbe, 149,000 sq.m. in districts subordinate to the center and 44,000 sq.m. were made available in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
Residential buildings in the country were reportedly constructed mainly by entities of the non-governmental sector, a considerable portion of which is taken up by the people (76 percent of the overall space made available last year).
During the past year 64 general educational schools to accommodate 19,000 pupils, eight preschool institutions, five hospitals and thirteen aid stations have been put into operation.
